Certificate Courses

We offer 3 different levels of professional regular courses on the spring and fall seasons. Each course is consist of once a week for 8 weeks. 

Basic Course

This is your first step to a fabulous career in the floral world. Upon successful course completion, you will receive your Basic Floral Design Certificate. Students who complete Basic Course, Essential Course and Designer's Course are awarded the title “Certified Floral Designer(CFD)” by American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), and qualified to apply to the Professional Floral Designer Evaluation (PFDE), the final step to become a member of AIFD.

Our Basic Course is 'once a week class for 8 weeks' program, which prepares students for entry-level floral design positions. Students who complete a 8-week program and pass both a written and a design examination will receive the Washington Flower School Basic Floral Design Certificate. 

As you progress through your lessons, you will learn the skills and develop the proficiency necessary for a career in the floral world. You will be amazed at how quickly you master the art of floral design. Our proven teaching methods will have you ready to step into a job upon completion of the program. You will learn and understand the elements and principles, forms, styles and techniques of floral design. You will also learn all about the most common flower varieties, the latest techniques for the care and handling of flowers. Each day is packed full with fabulous information that you will utilize throughout your career as a professional floral designer. 

It may sound so serious and complicated. But don't worry, we make it fun and easy! Each day, everything you need will be in the Loft of Rolling Ridge Floral Design. You need to arrive ready to learn. We take care of everything else.

The Washington Flower School teaching staff is always available in the classroom, by phone or e-mail to answer your questions. Even after you graduate and go home, you are never alone. If you didn't pass the test, you can come to the class room during the club hours(shown on our calendar) and keep practice your skills for free until you pass. Bring your own materials and study and practice by yourself. The class room is open for you.

Are you planning to open your own floral business? If so, we recommend that you plan to complete Essential Basic Courses and Designer's Course as well as the Business Course. You may also wish to add several Career Enhancement Advanced Seminars to expand your professional education.

Essential Course

This is once a week 8-week course for the students who completed the Basic Course. It follows the same curriculum but do more in-depth study. If you've worked in flower industry or experienced little bit but always not sure if you are doing it right, you might want to jump in this course. 

In this course, we will start simply by checking your basic skills and knowledge. We designed this particular course to make sure you learn all the categories of designs that you'd needed to create in everyday florist setting. We will make sure you have experiences with all the sympathy categories, wedding categories, everyday practical categories. It will be packed with hands-on practice to improve your skills.

Designer's Course

This is once a week 8-week course for an experienced florist. You should have some experience with flowers, maybe you are doing your church flowers, your friends’ wedding, you took some other classes before, or you’ve worked at flower shop. We will share with you with some trendy techniques that will set you apart, and show you some clever armature that makes your design better.

We make learning about flower fun and easy! Each day, everything you need will be in the Loft at Rolling Ridge Floral Design for you, including all the supplies and fresh materials. You may bring your own tools(floral knife, ribbon shears, bunch cutters, needle nose pliers) if you have, but we cover them all as well if you don’t. We even give you our handsome apron!

As you progress through your lessons, you will expand your understanding of floral theory and master contemporary techniques and design mechanics. Our proven teaching methods will prepare you to progress rapidly in your floral career and establish yourself as a true professional. You will learn to utilize the Fibonacci sequence, the golden measure and to master the science of design. You will learn to design with expanded flower varieties, foliage and their related care, handling and mechanics. We will cover the latest trends and techniques found in contemporary floral design today.

Our comprehensive learning center program, Designer’s Course, covers everything you need to prepare yourself for Washington Flower School certification. Each day is packed full with fabulous information you will utilize throughout your career as a Certified Floral Designer.

Cost:

All course fees include registration, tuition, plus booklet, all flowers, materials, tools and supplies. Students are asked to bring two items to class: a camera so that they may begin a portfolio of their work and a notebook for sketching. All other classroom materials are provided.
